Safety First — Elementary Schools Welcome School Resource Officers
CCS elementary schools welcome new staff members this school year – school resource officers (SRO).
SROs historically were only assigned to high schools and middle schools, but thanks to grants from the State of North Carolina, CCS elementary schools will have an SRO assigned to the school. Cabarrus County Schools will cover the remaining costs – approximately 25 percent – associated with placing the officers in our elementary schools.
Cabarrus County Schools is pleased to expand our SRO program to the elementary school level. Students will have an opportunity to interact with law enforcement at an early age, and the officers will have the opportunity to develop relationships with younger students.
Currently, 14 elementary schools have assigned SROs. The remaining officers are completing training and are expected to be on the job in the coming months.
Assigning SROs to our elementary schools is just another example of Cabarrus County Schools’ commitment to safety. In addition to the officers, CCS buildings are equipped with security cameras, buzz-to-enter door systems, and computer-programmed, keyless entry doors. These security measures also extend beyond the school building and onto the system’s bus fleet. CCS buses also are equipped with cameras.
