Charlotte, and all things NASCAR

Are you a race fan? Do you have the need for speed? The Charlotte Motor Speedway is the place for you to be this May!

Racing is huge across the country, and The Charlotte Motor Speedway is host to three different races! These races include: the Spring Cup Series, the All-Star Race, and the Coca Cola 500. Over 90% of all racing teams are based out of Charlotte or the surrounding counties. You never know who you will run into when you go out for dinner. You could be sitting by Jeff Gordon, whose parents live in Concord NC.

The Charlotte Motor Speedway transforms into a city of it’s own during race weeks. Tent cities pop up within a few blocks of the track. The sound of the engines, the smell of a good cookout, and the rays of our bright NC sun fill the senses. Inside the speedway, you’ll notice the large HD TV Screen (the world’s largest, in fact) and you’ll feel the rumbling as cars whiz by! To saver the experience you may want a souvenir. For the best t-shirts, key chains, and other NASCAR items you can visit the retail trailers set up across from the track.

If you feel you need to take it to another level you can sign up for the Richard Petty Driving Experience. This is not something that goes on during race week, but during the off season you can dress like a race car driver and take one of their cars around the speedway track. If you’re not sure you want to drive a race car around the track, you can also take a trip around the track in one of the tours. Even though you are in a van, you still get the sense of what the track feels like and what that angle feels like on the ground. What an experience!

For those of you who eat, sleep and breathe NASCAR – you will definitely want to visit the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Uptown Charlotte. This venue walks through the entire history of NASCAR. Touted as one of the most interactive and high tech halls of fame, the NASCAR Hall of Fame has over 50 interactive activities. True to NASCAR, they are also home to over 31 cars , spanning seven decades, and 1000 artifacts… You’ll be entertained for hours.
