Pay It Forward

Recently, I received a white orchid for my office. It was a kind gesture, and really warmed my heart. Unfortunately there are no windows in my office, and I am not there for days at a time. A few weeks later, when a friend shared some terrible news she had just received, I decided to take my beautiful orchid over to her house… She was just as grateful to receive it as I had been, and see needed it more than I did! Sometimes we are in NEED of an orchid, and sometimes we are supposed to GIVE the orchid (maybe within the same week!). In these troubling times it’s important to remember to #PayItForward#LoveOthers, and #BeGrateful.

Have a blessed day everyone!

Love,

Why use a realtor?

This year I sold my house and bought another, and it was EXTREMELY STRESSFUL!

Listing your home is tough; inspections, appraisal, repairs, negotiations, etc. You’re saying goodbye to a place with a lot of special memories, and no deal seems fair enough.

Buying a home is exciting, but it feels like you are on the defense; making sure the home is exactly what you want for a price you can afford. You’re always on the lookout for a bait and switch situation.

This is EXACTLY why it helps to have a #Realtor. Someone to explain the process and the paperwork… Someone who’s job it is to FIGHT FOR YOUR BEST INTEREST!

Stage the Home Yourself!

Thinking about selling? Inventory is low in and around the Charlotte area, so the market is on FIRE! Now is the time to get your home listed, but there are a few things you might want to consider before listing. Here are a few tips for staging the home yourself:

  1. Make it “Move-In” Ready!
Neutralize paint, furniture and window coverings. You may love that red kitchen, but not everyone will. Buyers are more likely to put an offer on a home they feel gives them a fresh start and clean canvas.
  2. Declutter and depersonalize
Potential buyers want to see themselves in your home. Simplify spaces by removing TV remotes, schoolwork, piles of laundry, to-do lists on the fridge, personal photos and excessive amounts of toys. Clean out closets and begin boxing up items… you need to get a head start on packing anyway!
  3. Appeal to the senses
Deep clean your home or hire a professional cleaning company to make it sparkle – it gives buyers the impression the home has been well cared for! Open the blinds, turn on lights and fans, play some calming instrumental music, and consider a clean plug-in or order neutralizer.
  4. The Devil in the Details
Look for items in your home that are dated, have harsh patterns or edgy colors, are too small to fill a wall or are too large on a small one. Styles that clash with one another, aged wallpaper, broken items you can’t repair, rusted car parts or clutter in your yard or patios all create eyesores. It’s better to have an empty wall, an empty room or nothing at all than something that doesn’t work for the space or is unappealing. Mirror your space after current styles and trends found in design magazines…. Pinterest is your friend!
  5. Remove Evidence of Pets
If you have pets, consider confining them to one area of the house while your home is on the market, limiting wear and tear they have on the home. Buyers may be allergic, terrified, or just annoyed by pets and a barking dog will absolutely hurry a showing along.

Easy and Fun Staycation Ideas

So you desperately need a vacation this summer, but you don’t want to spend the money? Here are some ideas for a wonderful staycation!

1) Turn off your cell phone… Nothing says “out of town” like disconnecting from your network. Even if it’s just for a day, take a break from your cell phone, email, even the news!

2) Bring a destination to the dinner table… Stop by one of these neat Charlotte restaurants to bring the smells and tastes of vacation right to your kitchen: Island Paradise Jamaican Restaurant, Havana Carolina Cafe, Thai Taste, Zeitouni Grill, or Ru San’s.

3) Get your house cleaned… Vacation is appealing because it’s all play and no work. Find a local service to do a one-day deep clean, and you’ll feel like you are in the lap of luxury.

4) Have dinner delivered a couple nights in a row… Running home from work to cook for the family can become quite a chore. Pretend you are on vacation and let someone else do all the work for you.

5) Organize a babysitting trade-off with a few other families… Each night the kids will go to a different home for fun and games. This leaves you with several nights free for some quality alone (and quiet) time and only one night on duty!

6) Get your vacation soundtrack going… Sometimes all you need is good music to feel like you’ve run off to paradise!

7) Read a book… A very popular vacation activity, and the best way to escape at home! If you needs a few suggestions, check out Goodreads.

8) Go outside… Summer is a time to take a dip in the neighborhood pool, stroll around the park with your dog, or just sit on the back deck sipping wine with friends. Vitamin D can really work wonders on your body, mind, and soul.

9) Enjoy local festivals… Charlotte is big enough that there is always something fun to do, especially in the summer. From the Taste of Charlotte to Movies in the Park there is something for everyone. See a list from the Charlotte Observer.

10) Have an at home spa day… Turn your home into a relaxing resort spa: light some candles, soak in the tub, give yourself a foot rub, hire a massage therapist for a house call, gift yourself with a new robe, or splurge on high thread count sheets.
